    Description

    This rare and very attractive medal (token or fob) is a souvenir of the 1889 World's Fair in Paris, France (Exposition Universelle) - at which the newly-constructed Eiffel Tower served as the entrance to the Exposition.  The obverse has an image that is an elevated (or aerial) view of the Eiffel Tower with the Exposition structures in the background, the words
    PARIS ~ 1889
    beneath the image, and the words
    TOUR EIFFEL
    along the upper rim.  The reverse has a large coat of arms, with six flags to the sides, and a radiant rising sun at the top - with the words
    FRAPPE A L'EXPOSITION PARIS
    ('Struck at the Paris Exposition') at the bottom.  This item was struck very well, with detailed, high-relief (three-dimensional) images and bold lettering.  It is holed (as issued) and likely originally was a fob (drop) on a souvenir badge.  The diameter i
    s approximately 20 mm (nearly 13/16").  The composition is a non-magnetic metal likely to be brass or bronze, and there is a very nice light gilt surface treatment that totally remains.
    This item is in extremely fine condition, with no apparent actual wear, with limited signs of handling, and toning, and it remains very bright with a very good gold color.  This is a beauty!!
